Every animal activist know that conveying information about animal cruelty can be met with resistance and defensiveness as well as understanding, support and a desire to take action. When faced with resistance, what can you do to ensure you convey the important information without alienating the listener? How can you avoid becoming angry or criticising the listener for their lack of compassion or naivety? What can you do to take the listener on a journey to understanding the issues without them withdrawing with horror at the reality of animal cruelty?
Clare Mann, Psychologist, communications expert and animal advocate will share a valuable model that helps explain the dynamics both within and between the listener and speaker. She will also provide insight on the process of behavioural change, drawing on the recent Ban Live Export Campaign as an example of an awakening of social change.
